After attending Japan Women's University, KATSUMATA CHIEKO received a grant in 1972 from the French government support study industrial design in Town. While there, after a happen on meeting with the well-known Inhabitant potter Fance Franck (1931-2008), she was inspired to pursue unembellished career in ceramics. Upon returning come within reach of Kyoto in 1978, she began to focus on the use of color to clay mess the mentorship of Yanagihara Mutsuo.
